RTS is an acronym for ''Real-Time Strategy''. This term is used to describe any game with a strategic element which progresses at a constant rate, where players act simultaneously. The opposite of this would be ''Turn-Based Strategy'', which relies on taking it in turns to move (e.g. Chess).
